APEnP is a nonprofit association governed by its own bylaws and by the applicable general legislation. Its objectives are to promote, defend, and develop education in prison settings, in accordance with Recommendation CM/Rec(2026)5 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to the member states.
Established on November 17, 2018, APEnP aims to bring together professionals who teach in the specific context of prisons. It promotes their scientific and pedagogical professional development and provides a space for reflection, debate, discussion, and the exchange of experiences. It also works to raise awareness of the initiatives developed in support of the education and training of incarcerated people.
As an affiliate member of the European Prison Education Association (EPEA), APEnP follows a decentralized approach across the country. Its goal is to bring the association’s work closer to its members and make the best possible use of the available resources to implement its program and action plan, including the following initiatives:
Organization of accredited training programs for professionals working in prison education.
Participation in research projects, dissemination of best practices, and production of knowledge, including teaching materials, support tools, and scientific articles.
Active participation in national and international organizations working in this field, with the aim of defending and developing prison education.
APEnP is divided into four geographic regions covering the entire country.
We work in partnership with national and international institutions.
